Limitiert auf ca. 100 Stück verschickte die BBC Radiosendungen auf Schallplatten an Lizenznehmer in der ganzen Welt. Dadurch wurden u.a. auch seltene Live-Aufnahmen von Comedians (Goons, Beyond Our Ken, etc.) und Pop Bands (Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, etc.) erhalten, die zum Teil sonst unwiderbringlich verloren wären. Michael Piltz erzählt die Geschichte der BBC Transcription Series und stellt Beispiele vor

 

"The BBC Transcription Services started life in the mid 1930's as The London Transcription Service following the advent of The Empire Service. (...) BBC Transcription Services were formed to licence BBC Radio programmes to overseas broadcasters who were authorised to broadcast the programmes for a set period, usually 2 or 3 years.
